Time in London…a little late

February 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

So, I got to spend two fabulous weeks in London, England. Even though I was in Egypt for four months and had a blast it almost seems like a blur. I have to think hard to remember what all I did while I was gone—it almost feels like I didn’t leave.

Anyways as much as I enjoyed Egypt I love London; probably because I have family there and got to stay with them and enjoy time with them. I hope I can start visiting there regularly.

I’ve never wanted to live in the US after “growing up.” I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m proud to be an American, but it’s just not the type of place I want to spend the rest of my life. Anyways, for the past year or so I’ve been thinking about living in the Middle East when I “grow up,” but I think London would be a nice place to live.

I’ve planned what I want the next couple of years to be like…I have a habit of doing that, but hopefully I don’t get disappointed and am able to live a happy life.

Anyways some of the things I did in London include :-D

So I’m dead in the middle of midterm season, and besides procrastinating on Facebook and going out with friends I haven’t had much time for anything…aka blogging. Sorry! I will try to write another longer perhaps intersting post next week like Wed??? Maybe…

Anyways, I miss all my friends and family back home!!! I can’t  wait to get back, but I am definitley going to miss Egypt…I can’t believe I’ve already been here a two months and that I have less than two months left in Egypt :(

Just in case you care, many of you know I am going to London from December 23-January 8 (woot! spending the new year there!) I also have another trip planned to Saudi Arabia, inshAllah for December 5-13!!! I really hope I am able to go!

Ok, well I’ve got an 11 page paper due on Monday…which I haven’t exactly started…and I’m not sure I will now, but still I just had a BUSY week and now that it’s the weekend here I think I deserve some lazy time :p

adios.

Greetings from London

So, I am here at the London Heathrow Airport waiting for my flight. Right now it is 2:16 p.m. and my flight is not until 6:25 p.m.

My flight from Houston to London was delayed about 2 hours, which for me turned out to be a good thing because that cut down my 8 hour layover to only 6 hours.

The flight over was okay—except I hardly got any sleep because the chairs were uncomfortable. They had me all the way at the back of the plane, all by myself right by the stinky toilets. But then a couple of hours into the flight after we had finished eating dinner, we some girl from Germany came and sat next to me because I guess she didn’t like her seat—so I didn’t get to sprawl out and take both of the seats L but, OH WELL.

The plane had VERY nice entertainment. I watched 21, some Ugly Betty and played a couple of games and listed to music. Overall, minus the uncomfortable seats, the cramped space and lack of sleep my flight was quite enjoyable.

Anyways–man, the London airport is HUGE—it’s like a mall with all of the shops and stores it had. Anyways once I got here I had to walk a million miles out of the terminal and then finally find my way to my flight connection….and along the process I had to get my bags searched—which not only took forever…but I have also currently misplaced Stanley (it’s a long story to describe him…so that will be another post).

Anyways I had to throw some stuff away because it wasn’t approved, which is weird because it all got approved in the Houston airport, but whatever.

I can’t wait until I get to Cairo, though I am a little nervous and hoping someone is there to pick me up! After I get to the Cairo airport I think it will be about a 2 hour drive to where I will be living.

Considering I hardly got any sleep, I think I’m doing good jetlag-wise. I thought I was going to have trouble staying awake while I’m waiting for my next flight, but luckily I’ve got my computer to keep my company.

Anyways, I think I’m done with this post—time to post on Stanley’s blog. J

I’ll keep you guys updated once I’ve got internet access again.

London= It’s been done.

Am I the only one that’s a little bummed out about the decision for the 2012 Olympics to be held in London?

Initially I had no sort of reaction about the 2008 Olympics being held in Beijing–of course others were complaining about air pollution, over population, etc. and I suppose that hindered the way I thought about this year’s location for the Olympics. But, now that the Olympics have started I don’t think there could have been a better place.

Sadly, I am not in Beijing to experience the Olympics firsthand, but from what I’ve seen through the NBC Olympic coverage, it seems like a truly special and, to use a nothing word, unique place for it to be held.

The Chinese culture is quite intriguing and because of the popularity of the Olympics, it forces others to pay attention to, and perhaps even appreciate the Chinese culture and way of life.

One of the contributing factors that makes this year’s Olympics different and more exciting to watch than past Olympics is because it is held in an Eastern country. For Americans, or at least for myself, I don’t think the Olympics are quite as appealing or enjoyable when they are held in the type of society that shares the same cultural values as myself.

But hey, if nothing else I’ve got family that lives in London and what better excuse to visit them than to finally get to see the Olympics in person!
